Cost, Quotes And Insurance

What does cabinet painting cost for a Markham kitchen?

In Ontario during 2026 a whole kitchen sat between $2,500 and $5,500 in most cases. Small kitchens and condo galleys open near $1,500, while large or two-colour kitchens climb to $6,000, $9,000 and higher. One door alone is about $130 to $250. All of that is market data rather than a price list, and your own number comes from whatever the free visit puts in writing.

Why does spraying cost more than brushing?

Spraying needs a booth for the doors, containment in the kitchen, extraction and the time to build thin coats with sanding between each. What it produces is a level, hard surface with no brush ridges, and it lasts far longer. Brushed cabinet painting leaves texture that catches dirt and chips along the edges, and that is why those kitchens look their age so quickly.

Is the cabinet painting work insured?

Yes. We are fully insured for the work we do, and proof of insurance can be produced before anything starts. Condo buildings often ask for it before they approve a date, so it goes to property management along with the booking.

Products And Finish

Does the finish chip at the pulls and the cutlery drawer?

Not where the prep and the cure were handled properly. Chipping at handle height comes from coating over grease, from a skipped or mismatched primer, from thick brushed coats, or from hard use before the film had set. Sprayed thin above the right primer, a waterborne alkyd enamel holds at those spots for years, and so does 2K polyurethane.

Is cabinet painting possible on thermofoil doors?

Thermofoil still bonded to the MDF underneath accepts cabinet painting provided a bonding primer goes first. Thermofoil that has curled or bubbled beside the range or dishwasher does not, because no coating re-sticks vinyl. Such doors go back to bare MDF, or are exchanged for new fronts sprayed to suit, and each appears on its own quote line.

Which products go onto the doors?

A waterborne alkyd enamel, or else a two-part 2K polyurethane, always applied by gun, over whichever primer the substrate needs. The enamel levels beautifully and hardens over about a month. The 2K is near full hardness within days and shrugs off cleaners better. Wall paint has no place in cabinet painting, since it stays soft and peels at the handles.

Timing, Condos And Second Kitchens

How much of the kitchen stops working during the job?

None of it completely. Boxes claim the house across two or three days; the shop keeps the doors for seven to ten. Through that stretch the open boxes act as shelving and the sink, range, dishwasher and fridge all keep running. Start to final hinge adjustment is about two weeks.

Can cabinet painting be done while a condo suite is occupied?

Yes, and that is the normal arrangement. Doors leave the building for the cabinet painting booth so no spraying or odour happens in the suite, and boxes are coated over a day or two behind sealed plastic. Elevator booking, corridor protection and the paperwork for property management are arranged before the start date.

Why does cabinet painting in Markham often involve two kitchens?

Because a great many houses here have a second kitchen in the basement. Roughly one household in ten is multi-generational, and the downstairs kitchen often does the heavy cooking. Quoting both at once means setup, masking and travel are only charged once, so cabinet painting on the pair costs less than two separate bookings.

Colour And Finishing Details

Does the kitchen have to be one colour throughout?

No. Markham asks most often for a charcoal, green or navy island against pale perimeter cabinets, and the other pairing we see a lot is painted uppers with a refinished wood island beneath. Each section is priced on its own line so two-colour cabinet painting can be costed against a single-colour plan.

Can cabinet painting match a colour from something we already own?

Yes, from any large paint deck and from most physical samples, a counter chip or a length of trim included. One of your own doors is then sprayed in that colour so it can be judged in the room. Matching off a phone photo is the one request we turn down, since a screen cannot show true colour.

Does cabinet painting include the insides of the boxes?

Not by default. Cabinet interiors are usually factory melamine in sound condition, and coating them adds real labour to a surface that spends its life closed. A separate quote line covers them for owners who want it, most often on open shelving and glass-front uppers.
